We got back from Florida on Friday evening and between the drastic change in weather and a couple colds which are holding some of us back, I think it's safe to say that we could have used an extra week of sunshine! Except not really because I'm secretly relishing this cold, white christmas weather. I think it's part of my DNA to like and get excited for a white christmas. dna which I do not think I passed on to june because it seems like she is a carbon copy of mike in all the ways and they both grumble the minute the cold air hits their face. I'll get them excited yet. #forevertheoptimist !!
I have so many pictures and memories to digest from last week - it was such a wonderful first time away together for the four of us!! The girls really did so well, dealing with long days, sleeping in new beds (and an actual "bed" for June!!) and in the *same room* - minus a meltdown or two on the travel home day they really couldn't have been more "seasoned"; and lets be honest I wanted to meltdown on the travel day too so I can't hold that against them (or mike ;)
First order of business when we got home was to get our tree! I was feeling a little twitchy to not have it up yet but it didn't make sense to get one before we left (it has to be a real one!) So we went out first thing on Saturday morning. I pulled everyone out of their beds and dressed us up - They are such troopers for putting up with my enthusiasm for events like this one but I do have to say I think I'm rubbing off a bit on Mike because he even requested to stop on the way home to pick up some good hot chocolate to complete the tradition. It's not the best tree we've ever had (I'm notorious for being extra critical about finding "the tree" each year and I think i've driven my family crazy in the process for as long as I can remember.....now this tree anxiety just gets passed on to mike, poor guy!) but I'm never not surprised at just how utterly perfect a crooked or less than full tree can look as soon as you get the lights and trimmings on it. <3 We added a few new ones this year - we collect ornaments from our adventures and this year we added one from our trip to Boldt Castle in the summer and from Disney when we were in Orlando. I got June an Alice in Wonderland one since that was her costume this year. She shrieked when she opened it "that's for Meeee???? thank-you mama!!!" and now she keeps pulling me over to the tree to show me "her very special one" (MY HEART!) (can *not* wait to see her on christmas morning this year.)
Fourth Sunday in advent. Love this time of waiting. Love this last week before Christmas. Going to take it one day at a time and soak up as much time as possible basking in the light of the tree on all these cold, dark nights we're having! Hope everyone is warm and wishing you lots of light this last week before Christmas!!
