Just in time for the Holidays: Easy peasy hostess gifts and Beautiful seasonal outdoor bouquets!
It's Sparrow in the Tree Top's very first Reader Contribution Feature! I loved this idea because it's something meaningful (everyone loves to have some cranberry sauce at Christmas dinner) and if you do it up like Amanda has done here, "it looks so pretty, it could be on a Christmas card!" (Sorry, Elf quote.) If you are looking for something snappy easy and perfectly eloquent to give to neighbours or pass out as hostess gifts:
Cranberry Sauce a La Ms. White
- 12 ounces cranberries (aprox. 3 cups)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup orange juice
In a medium sized saucepan over medium heat, dissolve the sugar in the orange juice. Stir in the cranberries and cook until the cranberries start to pop (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and place sauce in a bowl. Cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools. Refrigerate until used.
Outdoor Seasonal Bouquets
Earlier this fall I failed miserably to enterprise on a major money making situation. My neighbour's house, (which has been renovated and "magazine-ized,") was featured on a city-wide "Christmas Homes Tour" (for charity). Over 5,000 people bought tickets to the tour and many of them were lined up outside my house for the majority of the weekend, waiting patiently for their turn to tour. It just so happened to be one of the coldest weekends of the fall, and people waiting in line could have really benefited from a hot-chocolate. You see where I'm going with this?.... $1 per hot-chocolate to a couple thousand people.....
But since I don't really consider myself a swindler, nor cut-throat entrepreneur, and given the fact that the tour was for charity, the guests were left with only the beautiful scenery to amuse themselves while they were waiting in the cold. The plus side of this was that it really was beautiful scenery. Take a look at some of the seasonal "floral" arrangements that were donated to the cause!! :
