It snowed again on the weekend and because it's supposed to be SPring, we just couldn't bare to stay inside. my parents were visiting so we decided to make a trip out to almonte which is only about 1/2 hour outside of Ottawa. pronounced "Al-mont" (but I still say "al-mont-tee" in my head because I'm a bit of a nerd like that) it's a quaint old mill town that has come to life with artisan stores that sell local goods. I really love their efforts to keep the vibe of the town local and in support of the people who live in the area. We picked up a few cute things at Cheerfully handmade and the local bookstore (a onesie for new baby and Mercer meyer book for June ) and We had lunch at Heirloom which is located in a beautiful old mill building that used to be the centre of the town (the food was really yummy by the way but you just couldn't beat the setting!) The river just outside the mill was so crazy full and dangerous looking, it made me slightly nervous to have my toddler anywhere near the edge of it. But it was beautiful and kinda mesmerizing to stare at nonetheless (what is it about waterfalls and bon fires that just put me in a trance?!) but definitely reminds you how powerful mother nature is - especially at this time of year when everything is melting!
In other news, I tried to do wayyyyy too much this past weekend. since my parents were in town we felt the need to take advantage of the help & crammed a months work of "to-do" items into 48 hours.... that on top of going out to a movie and getting to bed suuuuuper late on saturday night (is it just me or does the "late show" start ridiculously later than it used to? maybe I'm just getting older but if you want to do dinner first it feels like you have no choice but to go to a movie that starts at nearly 10 pm?) has left my 32 weeks pregnant body completely depleted. Hoping i can make up for some lost time today and I'm trying to start the week reminding myself that it's ok to not get everything done, which is one of the hardest lessons of motherhood, i'm learning. Wish me luck since i'm feeling frantic that the baby will arrive and things won't be "ready."
Here are a few pictures from our time in almonte! We've only had the chance to visit on one other occasion; it was likewise grey and cold out so I'd love to come back and see the town once the nicer weather hits! It's so close so I'm sure this won't be an issue :)
blurry but perfect because she was so excited to pick out books to read in the comfy chair at the back of the store.
she was so cute with this statue of James Naismith; she kept running back and forth with small stones to fill his basket.
cheerfully handmade is both a store (shop online here) but also a hub for local producers including a craft show series. I found out their spring craft show is the first weekend of may and baby permitting i will definitely be checking it out. because there are too many opportunities for all the cute little baby things!!
june is bonkers for my mom ^^ i love love love seeing my parents with her. it makes my heart so happy.
the sorts of antics you resort to when waiting for your food to arrive :)
pizza was SO good. june ended up swapping me half her mac and cheese for a few slices ;)
had to include this picture ^^^ because how SWEET is this highchair? I'm totally in love with it an on a mission to find something similar for our home.
see you soon almonte! and thanks for helping me wrangle my ball of energy this weekend mom and dad! we're so lucky to have you xoxo
