It's nearing the end of September and in Ottawa we've been having an honest to goodness heat wave!! We have been taking advantage and getting outside every chance we can; in some ways it's weird because we're still not in this "back to school - back to routine" kind of rhythm that I actually really crave when September hits. But honestly it's been so great to just drop our boring dinner plans and head out for an impromptu picnic, or an after dinner play at the park or a walk.... because why not?! This is me being all modern mom and dropping the rules on a "school night" as if I'm cool.... it's also me getting out of making dinner and picking up take-out to eat while we're out and about because let's face it thats just easier... but lets just pretend it's the cool part ;) These photos are from a walk we took last week on a trail about five minutes from our place. It was so beautiful! I love finding new places to walk in our own neighbourhood!
If we're friends on Instagram or Facebook you'll probably notice that nearly every picture I've posted this summer includes our black & white baby cover from the OVer Company. Honestly one of the ways I got through the summer and adjusted to "life with two" was to just pack up our stroller like a donkey, strap the little one in, and drag the big one out to the park. We seemed to get into fewer toddler scrapes the more time we spent outside; and this baby cover that I picked up on a whim about a week before Flora was born, has been my saving grace. i have always been supremely concerned as a new mom with the temperature of my new born (aren't we al;l!?)... and is it just my car seat or do all sun visors on carseats actually not pull down far enough? with june i would get it positioned *just so* and the minute I turned a corner the sun would creep under into my babies eyes. This summer has been at times hot, windy and cold... and i have never really hesitated to head out so june can burn out some energy because of this one little cover! We have literally been all over the city and back again in sun, wind and rain and Flora slept comfortably through most of our adventures..... mostly; The large hole in the top is big enough to see through to keep and eye on baby and June would ride the boogie board on the stroller, pull the hole down and peek into check on her all summer long and it melted my heart every time...even the times she would yell - *Flora's awake* when she most definitely was not.
I can't say enough things: It has to the most versatile baby "item" I own. It kept the sun out her eyes - I've nursed under it, I've hidden leaky milk stains with it (embarrassing!) and I've covered my baby with it when I forgot a receiving blanket. Hands down, I'm now of the opinion that this is *the* baby must have item. And the other day I nearly stopped a stranger on the street who was struggling to keep her muslin blanket draped over the stroller in the wind to let her know about it. Would that have been weird of me? Maybe. Happy to report I'm getting more and more comfortable with that as I get older ;)
Because I literally spent all summer going-on about this baby cover, my friends at the OVer company sent me this absolutely b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l cover from their summer 2017 collection. It's called the Willowbrook Stripe but it's Kelly Green and as you guys know I have a thing with that colour. And apparently it was designed and inspired by palm springs where summer is never -ending! how fitting since it definitely feels like summer is never ending this year in ottawa!! I'm also in love with the Parker Pink and the Haven OVer and the classic plaid one that is a must have for Fall!!
They also have a new collection of darling swaddles (next on my shopping list!). All Canadian Made by a darling Canadian Mama with an incredible story about how it all began. (I love it when mamas make great products because they see a need and fill it!)
