I am so so excited to share these pictures with you today and to tell you about this awesome small shop that my childhood friend started up with her hubby earlier this summer. It's called Cactus Rose and Morgan has the best sense of style - I totally look up to her and when I heard she was doing boho inspired, hand drawn t-shirts and onesies and these Free Bird Shorts and Maxi skirts for kids, I was so excited for her! I ended up buying the "Road Trippin'" ones for both girls because well, I love a hot and sweaty jam packed road trip ;) And early road trips with Mike are some of my favourite memories I have of the two of us - like the one we took to Vermont and Rhode island when we were dating. The T shirts were too fun to not show off in some way and when I asked my good friend Alex from Tiny Marvels if she would be interested in taking some (more!) pictures for us, she graciously offered her time! I'm still blown away at how mothers will offer to help out fellow entrepreneurs, even if they've never met! And I love that I can use this space to highlight hardworking Canadian mamas with their own beautiful small shops and I hope to do more of that this Fall! But not getting ahead of myself - it is STILL summer (and I'm going to cling to that until September 20!)
So about this amazing car! This really is a story about community. I started driving around town looking for retro cars for sale on the end of people's driveways (yes. yes i did do that. in my ample "free" time I have right now. crazy emily. why don't you just nap!?) and when I came up empty I posted in my local moms group (which honestly never fails me, the mommies always come through & I should have just put out the question there first!). Jen and her super lovely hubby Frank loaned out their 1976 Pontiac for the photoshoot; and it couldn't have been more perfect. We met on a picture perfect summer evening earlier this month. Frank's car was simply gorgeous and belonged to his godfather who passed it down to him - which I just think is so special. Also the horn played "la cucaracha" (installed by his godfather himself!) After this experience, I'm totally seeing myself in a classic car at some point in life. I mean, does it get any better than a leisure cruise in a vintage car on a night like this one?
I also have to say a few words about June's participation in this photo shoot. This Girl! I pull a camera out and she normally runs the other way (fair enough, toddler life) but she brought her a-game! I can't believe the poses she pulled out with *zero* instruction or coaxing (also Alex is just really good at what she does and makes kids at ease - can't recommend her enough if you are local!). It was so fun to do this together! and i know i'm going to cherish these photos when the girls get older.
Alright! A slew of vintage inspired pics coming at ya! Make sure you go and check out Cactus Rose ! <3
I kissed her and smeared lipstick ^^^ on her cheek before we even started and I'm actually super happy about it. Also - that little hitch-hiker thumb was completely fluke and of her own doing!
Soaking up these last beautiful truly "summer" days with these photos and feeling oh so fortunate to be making these opportunities with other talented mamas. And of course feeling lucky to be having so much fun with these two beautiful girls of mine.
