Flora Grace is five and a half Months Old!! This was a really big month for all of us as we watched her grow and change and learn so.many. things. At some point around thanksgiving she started crawling and it's been one thing quickly after the other since that point. So as of today she is crawling and sitting up and she has two teeth which are just the cutest little things peeking out from behind her gummy smile. I forgot how horrible teething is but at the same time how accomplished you feel when you break on through to the other side together. I just kept saying this past week - you've done so well my baby! And she'd look up at me with her drooly smile and flash her sore red gums with those two toofies poking through.
I know I spend a lot of time being tired and talking about what it's like to be running after a now moving infant (I really have to get on that baby-proofing again!) and a toddler tornado. But I look at what Flora has gone through the past month and I can't help but feel this sense of empathy for how hard it is to grow! I mean, the rate with which their little bodies change and morph in the first two years is just crazy!! I try to keep that in mind when the clingyness starts and when the wake-ups happen. Because that's what were here for as parents right? To be a constant when their world changes before they really have a chance to grab ahold of it.
I mentioned this a few posts back but I was sick a lot of October so we did spend a lot of time at home just growing. We played with blocks and balls - now some of Flora's favourites, and we worked on baby books (for both Flora AND June ....) and we read stories and made soup and burrito bowls. When we did get out it was usually to the woods to walk and just breath in the beautiful Fall we've had here. I grumble when summer leaves us but Fall really is such a spectacular season. And I've been able to see it through Flora's eyes for the first time as she looks at the changing leaves in the trees and listens to the sound of our now cold footsteps on the sidewalk as we walk around our neighbourhood.
Flora loves kisses on the neck in quick succession, Cliff's feet (and anything Cliff does really is just the most hilarious thing to her..., June's a close second), and chewing on anything wooden. She makes cheerful, gleeful noises when you come into a room, particularly for mama, which of course just seems like the world's richest payment for all the work we put in together. She loves taking the world in when we go on walks and she loves listening to music in the car when we drop Juney off at Nursery School in the mornings. We have loved having a bit of just Flora and mummy time together and we really try to just cuddle and talk and stay nice and close to one another on these mornings.
We've been calling Flora our little intrepid baby because it seems like the best way to describe her. She is proving to be brave and fearless and as her Nanny Kelly described her, strong. Her daddy thinks she's laid back and at ease and I think she's just the most magnetic thing in a room.
We love you Flora Grace Kelly!!
