On Father's Day morning I told Mike he could sleep in... and then I revoked that offer when 6 am rolled around and I had been up off and on since four. BUT BUT, I did send him back to bed at 8 so that's fair right? And I mean, he slept like a log through about 2 solid hours of June's "have a present for you dad" ringing throughout the house. She was SO excited to give him his gift which she helped wrap, and to bring him the breakfast, the bagel which she helped butter. I'm not making this up you guys but she calls herself "Helpy Bear" and if you do not let her butt her chair up to the counter to "help", the entire neighbourhood will hear about it. It's a tough balance.... because sometimes you just need to make some toast... and sometimes your heart gets ripped out when you think "am I actually not going to let Helpy Bear get in on this?!" Anyway, I'm sure we weren't in a hurry to wake mike up with breakfast (except I was because as much help as June was offering up, it sure wasn't an extra set of arms which you need with two kids it turns out.)
Anyway, Father's Day was lovely. After we did gifts we played around until nap time and then even mama got to nap. Flora is such a little love and will still basically fall asleep with me where-ever and whenever at the moment (I am going to miss these days when she starts to you know, want to be awake all the time!) After nap time we got ice cream from Sundae School which is a newish place in Ottawa (I don't really have a good barometer of what's new and hip in the city at the moment since I've been living under a mom rock for the past 3-4 months but Mike assures me it's new and all the rage - look at me being all on the pulse!) and it's all *homemade* ice cream and so so delicious. I got Jolly rancher and Vanilla and shared it with Juney. Well, she shared some with me.
It was scorching hot out and June had eaten nearly all of my ice cream so we went to a park to burn off some energy on the way home. It was one of those days where I only took a few pictures but wasn't really on my phone all that much and it actually felt really good. I find it hard not to slip quickly into other apps when I have my phone out so often to take pictures, but it's so great to at times just detach for a little bit. I think I'm going to try to do that more on weekends because I really did enjoy just leaving it in my bag the majority of the day.
And that marks times two years we've both celebrated parenthood!! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with their family or friends.
