I've been talking about making this pie for about two years now. It was on an episode of Diners, Drive In's and Drives - the one where that annoying guy goes to the 3 Sisters Cafe in Indianapolis, IN.
I think I've mentioned it before but I'm not a huge "sweets" person. I'll take a poutine over cheese cake any day. The irony of it all is that I'm far better at pastries then I am on the stove top (I thrive off of structure and rules... it makes me uncomfortable to just "wing it"). I think it was God's way of saving me from myself. A perfect arrangement really since Mike has a huge sweet tooth. Excellent. Guinea pig. (*rubs hands together*)
But as I was saying, not a sweet tooth, so when I heard what this pie was called, I was all over it. Sweet + Savory could be my pillow at night. I'm not sure exactly what that means but I think you get the visual. (Did I mention there's BASIL in this pie? Well there is. Yes you heard me. Basil.)
At any rate, I'm happy to report that this pie was exactly as good as it sounds. Mike said "it might be the best thing you've made - ever."
If anything, the flavor of the blueberries is just subtly complimented by the creaminess of the cheese and dairy.
Oh and building on experience, I did not leave this pie to cool on the stove as I did with the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie which, as you may recall, quickly became Cliff's afternoon snack.
